Abstract
This project aims to design a community participation framework for the prevention and control of dengue through artificial intelligence (AI) approaches in a community in Santo Domingo. Recognizing the importance of integrating equity, diversity, and inclusion, we seek to adopt an approach that is sensitive to the needs and particularities of the affected community. This involves ensuring equitable access to health information and services for all people, regardless of gender, age, ethnic origin, socioeconomic status, or physical ability. Additionally, cultural, and linguistic differences will be considered when designing and implementing interventions, such as chatbots and AI systems, ensuring their cultural relevance and universal understanding. Project objectives include establishing new research relationships with universities and community organizations in the Dominican Republic, conducting a community assessment to explore local needs and resources to address dengue outbreaks, determining factors that influence the adoption of preventive practices, and developing customized chatbots and AI systems to provide accurate and timely information on health promotion and dengue prevention. The study design is based on a community-engaged research approach, including understanding context and building partnerships. This design will be developed in three phases: community engagement, AI solution development, and community-based clinical trial. The lack of contextualized and culturally appropriate interventions for dengue prevention is identified as an important gap in the health field, which motivates this study to address this gap and provide a comprehensive and effective solution. The expected impact of the project includes improved dengue prevention and control, improved public health outcomes, data-driven decision-making, and the establishment of long-term sustainable partnerships and solutions. This project aligns with the existing AI4PEP project by expanding its focus towards implementing AI solutions in a specific community in Santo Domingo. While the current AI4PEP project focuses on research at a regional level, this project focuses on practical application in a local community, allowing for effective scaling and expansion of the interventions developed.

Objetivo General: • Establecer nuevas relaciones/colaboraciones de investigación con universidades, organizaciones de base y organizaciones no gubernamentales en RD que fomenten resultados mutuamente beneficiosos tanto para la investigación científica como para la comunidad. • Realizar una evaluación comunitaria para explorar las necesidades, prioridades y recursos locales disponibles para abordar los brotes de dengue. • Determinar los factores que influyen en la adopción de prácticas preventivas por parte de la comunidad. • Desarrollar chatbots y sistemas de IA personalizados según la cultura de la comunidad para proporcionar información precisa y oportuna sobre la promoción de la salud y la prevención del dengue. • Evaluar la eficacia del uso de chatbots y sistemas de IA personalizados para reducir la incidencia.
